Today we started off the class with the morning message and some sample multiple choice math questions from EQAO. We worked together to discuss strategies for solving the questions and also strategies for answering multiple choice questions correctly.
We then divided into two groups. One group did a review of money and time, while the other group worked on created bar graphs from a given set of data. Each graph looked at using a scale other than one.
After recess we worked on our candy packages. This final step uses the research from our surverys and our knowledge of media to create an interesting candy package design.
After lunch, we had a class meeting as there seems to be several problems that need to be solved after most recesses and lunch breaks. We talked about being nice to each other and doing things to prevent problems from happening and how to react to things we don't like. Hitting, name-calling just to name a few. We spend way too much time solving problems and this takes away from time when we could be learning and completing activities. The discussion also got interesting when students felt they should ALL be treated differently. So the discussion was heated so I asked students to write a response in their Journal for a writing assignment.
Afterwards we leveled some responses to questions about a poem. Students in groups looked and student responses and leveled them from 1 to 4. 4 being the best the response. Students then gave criteria as to what made one response better than the other. When that was completed students then compared the answers they gave to the ones they ordered and gave themselves a mark based on this criteria. We learned how important it is to read questions carefully and also add the details that are asked for.
Last period we had Music.
