Tuesday January 24

Today we started off by writing in our Journals.     I am encouraging students to write about what they want, and in the form they want to write it in as long as they use the correct conventions for each form.

In Math  we began our unit on division.  We talked about how we can share a group of things equally between groups.    We also looked at how closely it is related to multiplication.

eg.)      XXXXXXXXXX    there are ten objects

           If I am going to share those objects between  5 groups

        XX         XX      XX      XX      XX              10 divided by 5  equals 2
      number in each group.

We practiced finding the quotient to different division questions using counters.

After recess. we did Science experiments looking at the strength of magnets and friction.
Our goal was too look for "quantifiable data".   We wanted our observations to have numbers.
So with magnets we counted paperclips, and in friction we measured distance in cm.    We also discussed repeating tests, so we get  more valid data.      

After lunch, we read from our novel,  Watson's go to Birmingham.  We then worked on the Daily 5.
Reading, writing, spelling.    In writing our new focus is narratives.   We are working on completing our first stories.

We went to the computer lab last period with Mr. Brutto.
