We started off the day by reading the morning message and having yet another discussion about noise level and listening politely.
We then did our Math activities. One group was focussing on subtraction and word problems, one group was reviewing perimeter, one group was making leaves using pattern blocks then identifying the shapes used, and the angles in those shapes, and the final group was looking a linear measurement and doing problem solving based on a graph and table of measurements. After recess we switched groups but the activities were the same.
After lunch we looked at writing opinions or what is referred to as expository writing. We looked at how they were structured. It starts with a statement of position, then you give supporting details and then give a summary or concluding sentence. The students practiced following this model on the topic,
"Kids over 5 yrs. old do not need recess." I was very impressed with the great arguements the students had in their opinion writing. We will move into putting these opinions into letter form later.
If complete some students were able to work on their spelling and read to self.
We then read another chapter of "Mr. Stink"
After recess, the students had Music with Mr. Cook.
