Thursday November 3 Day 2

We started the day off with Gym.
When we came back to class we read the morning message and added missing punctuation to message.
We ended up having a good discussion about war that was inspired by a question about poppies.
The class knows quite a  bit about war and were puzzled by how war can bring peace.

After recess, Mr. Greenwald did a lesson on measurement that  introduced the students to using a ruler and measuring in centimetres.

After lunch, we worked together to write a sample of an article for our newspaper.    We looked at gathering the facts of Who, What, When, Where, Why... and then added more details.   We then started to write the information into sentences remembering that we are just retelling an important or significant event.

Half of the class did a reading activity where they read a story and responded to various questions.
The other half worked on Spelling and Reading independently.

After recess, we did a tree survey in the schoolyard.   We looked at two kinds of trees.   Trees that lose their leaves ( deciduous) and trees that keep their leaves ( coniferous).  We walked around the school and recorded the number and type of trees around our school.     We will analyze our data tomorrow.

HOMEWORK:  complete Spelling
Count the number and type of trees in your yard
                           Read.
