Monday November 14 Day 4

We started the day off in the gym with Mr. McCain.

When we returned to class  Mr. Greenwald introduced the idea of the kilometre.     We learned that there are 1000m  in 1 km.     We also learned that it takes the average child  15 min to walk 1 km.

After recess we worked with Tangrams.  Tangrams are a set of 7 geometric shapes.   We learned the word congruent ( same size same shape) and we explored tangrams trying to solve different puzzles using the seven shapes.  We also reviewed some geometry words as we used the shapes.  ( angle, side, acute, obtuse, right angle, square, triangle, parallelogram).

After lunch Mr. Greenwald taught a Social Studies lesson on how natural geography can effect how people live, how they enjoy their free time, and even the type of houses and food they eat.    This was challenging for many students so we will spend more time on this.

We then started our second form of writing for our newspapers.   We are learning about reviews.    We looked at movie reviews, video game reviews,  song reviews , etc.    Each review tells what they reviewed, and then it gives a personal opinion and a rating.

After recess we wrote the Lesson 9 words in our notebooks.  This week we are focussing on  plurals.   We learned that we add "s" to make most words plural, but when you have "ch, sh, x, o, ss," at the end of a word you add "es".

HOMEWORK: Study Lesson 8 words.
                          Lesson 9 alpha order, sentences
Read.    Look at your report card.
