Wednesday October 26 Day 1

We started our day off with dance with Jessica.    Today we worked on creating movements and putting them together in a short piece for performing for others.  We have explored levels of movement, how bodys relate to each other in space, and other elements of dance.   We are encouraging participation more than dance perfection.   We want to children to have a better understanding of what makes dance so important.

After lunch we came to class and read two chapters from "Mr. Stink."    We learn that Chloe is not so happy at home, with her mom being overly concerned about what others think, and her sister is very happy to get her in trouble.   She has a special relationship with her father and is getting to wonder more about Mr. Stink.  Today she brought him 8 sausages without her mom knowing.  She would be mortified for hanging out with "such creaturess."    We also learned that Mr. Stink likes to be called a vagabond, or wanderer as opposed to a tramp or hobo.

After checking reading responses,  I noticed students still having trouble with connections so we did a response to the chapters in Mr. Stink to help students understand the expectations. What are your connections and why?     We then did some work with subtraction.   We did a worksheet that had 2digit subtraction without regrouping  and then started some questions with regrouping.   We need more time on the concept of regrouping.

After recess, we did a scavenger hunt in the paper.  We looked for different things in newspapers.  Front page, masthead, full page ads. half page ads.,  recipes, classified and puzzles.   We also reviewed the different sections in the paper and that many forms of writing can be found in a news paper.   We will work on identifying them, and their purpose  when we begin our newspapers tomorrow.

Congrats to Noa and Matthias for working so hard in the office today.   Noa replaced Ms. Mistrella as the Admin. Asst.  and Matthias was VP for the day.   They worked very hard and did an excellent job.

HOMEWORK:     None.  Principal of the Day  (Mr. Rogan)  declared it a homework free day.
