Wednesday October 12 Day 1

We started off our day in the library with Mr. Brutto.
When we returned to class we wrote in our Journals and after that we checked out Math work from yesterday.   We looked at the 100's chart and we also reviewed adding of two-digit numbers.  We looked at what numbers look like using tens and ones, and then we added numbers that needed us to regroup ones, and carry them to the tens.  This algorithm is challenging for students.   If they can understand what it looks like then, the subtracting (which students dislike) will make more sense.

Using sticky notes to write the shapes we know.

Sorting shapes and placing on our chart paper.

The scribe (Athena) recorded the rules we use to identify shapes.
After recess we came back to class and did a cooperative Math activity that started off nicely and everyone worked quite well together.    We did an introduction activity on shapes.  Students worked in groups of 3 or 4 and on sticky notes drew and labelled the shapes they know.   Afterwards these shapes were sorted and then students had to give a description of what attributes made that shape.  eg.  How do you know a circle is a cirle?  What rules do you use to say that?

After lunch I attended a meeting that discussed our Literacy Pathway for the upcoming term.     We will be looking closely at different forms of writing and having students be able to identify the elements that are evident in each form.

The supply teacher had students work on a writing activity that looked at correcting upper and lower case letters,  and read two chapters from "Alvin Ho".     They also did a Social Studies activities that checked their understanding of maps, legends and scale.

HOMEWORK: Read.
NOTE:  There is a letter that went home re: lice.  Please as your child for this and check them.
Picture retake day is OCTOBER 25.
