We started off the day in Gym with Mr. McCain. Students reported that they talked about improving their listening skills. We talked about it when we got back to class. If Mr. McCain, Mr. Cook, Mr. Brutto and myself are all having similar concerns, then it is up to you to make the effort to improve, all we can do is remind you.
After that discussion we did a Journal entry on "Things That I am Thankful For." Students could use any form they wanted to share their ideas. I got lists, paragraphs, comics and letters.
After recess we did Math. I gave the class this problem. You can choose 10 base ten blocks to create numbers. You must use at least one of each block in your number. Sketch as many numbers as you can.
Once students got to ten different numbers, they were asked to arrange their 3-digit numbers in order from least to greatest. This was a challenge , but many did a great job!!
After lunch we did some Visual Art. Today we looked at how we can make things look closer or farther away by overlapping them. To explore this idea students traced circles of various sizes on large paper. They were to show overlapping, and they were also asked to show some circles partially off the page.
We then folded our papers in half 3 times to create lines in the background. We then used watercolour paint to complete the first step in the art activity.
After recess, we completed work on our Journal, did independent reading and cleaned and organized our desks.
HOMEWORK: Read daily.
Practice +/- numbers to 20. I would be great if students could commit some of these
facts to memory to improve both speed and accuracy as we move into more
challenging number work. We will be working on different adding/subtracting
strategies, but having these basic facts at hand will help greatly.
Have a great long weekend!
