We began the day in the library.
When we returned to class, we wrote in our journals and again focussed on writing using proper letter size, and upper and lower case letters correctly.
After recess we worked on comparing numbers. And deciding on which is greater or least by looking at the value of a digits in the ones , tens and hundreds. We completed a worksheet that started of with two digit numbers and worked up to 3-digits. Also, we focused on reading the instructions, as there were several steps. We tried not just guessing what to do, or doing the same thing for each question even if it looks like you do the same thing.
After lunch we did two more letters in cursive, Tt and Ii. We then added all our elements to our Literacy Boxes. During literacy time we will have our boxes with us so we can move seamlessly from one activity to another and all our work is with us. We then worked on organizing our ideas before writing. We looked at photgraphs taken from the internet. We looked at an image and using simple words or phrases organized what was in the picture under
Who? What? When? Where? and Connections ( What does this photograph remind me of?)
There were four photographs and each student chose one photograph. They were encouraged to be detailed in their descriptions and notes e.g) instead of writing "dog" they could write "golden retriever or large yellow dog" They will use this organizer to describe the photograph in a descriptive paragraph.
As an extension to this assignment and to create more interest I will be asking students to bring in a meaningful photograph from home of a special time or event or just one they like.
We started reading "Alvin Ho" but had to stop as there were too many interuptions during the read aloud.
We then went out and did DPA before recess.
After recess, students worked on completing work from their literacy boxes. Word Work Lesson #2, Cursive, Writing: organzing ideas, or Read to Self.
HOMEWORK: Complete Word Work : only specifi students that did not complete last night
