Happy RoshaShana!
Today we started off as usual with an agenda check, homework hand-in and Journal. Students were to finish their Terry Fox entry from yesterday and if completed could start a new topic.
We then did the morning message. Today, we focused on looking at the syllables in words. We also learned that every syllable in a word will have a vowel ( a,e,i,o,u or y). We highlighted words with two syllables yellow and words with three or more syllables green.
We then did our Math activity that looked at comparing numbers. We looked at creating the greatest and least number when you are given 3 digits. eg.) you have 6, 2, and 8.
862 is the greatest 268 is the least what other numbers can you create?
After recess, we worked on completing our classroom map, making sure we had a key to show what was in the room. We also reviewed the concept of a "bird's eye view" when making a map. we only see the tops of things.. not the entire object. Those finished were encouraged to draw a map of their bedroom at home and create their own key and symbols.
After recess, we did Read to Self. It was a great period. Everyone read for 30 min. and it was calm and students were focused. I was able to work independently with two students. Keep up the good work!
After that students had the choice as to which activity they wanted to work on first.
1. Working on Writing: completing a descriptive paragraph rough copy
2 . Word work: find as many words as you can with "sh" or "ch" in them.
after 30 min. students switched activities.
We then prepared our agendas, packed our bags and got ready for recess. Students went to the Library with Mr. Brutto and were dismissed by Mary. There were 3 notes that went home today. Please check your child'd bag. Thanks.
HOMEWORK: Bring in a photograph of an important, fun or meaningful event by Tues. Oct. 4

Will be using this in a future writing assignment on Tues or Wed. If you can
print out a photo that is fine. Or you can send me a file to darrin.singbeil@tdsb.on.ca and
I can print it out at school.
