On Friday we did some catch up work and also did some visual art that integrated some movement as well as some of our work in Social Studies. We created this art work over two classes.
The first class we looked at differnt attributes of line and quality of lines. ( eg. thick , thin, zig-zag, straight, green, blue etc.) Students coloured a piece of white paper with a variety of lines. Then they ripped pieces of paper one at a time and applied them to a larger piece of construction paper. It ended up looking like a puzzle. This was covered in a paste to keep the paper flat.
We then did some movement, and gesture drawings on practice papers. Students each got a turn to pose in front of the class doing a movement that was high, medium or low. While posing the students at their desks did a quick 30 sec. outline of the body shape. As a final step in our art project, students used pastel to draw the path they use to get to school once they wake up. From leaving their bed, to arriving at school the stairs, the turns etc. are what the line shows. They then added three of their favourite body shapes from the gesture drawings on the practice paper. Pretty snazzy if you ask me!!
Below are closer more detailed images of some of the artwork created.

We then did a lesson on number patterns and using a calculator. We were given a rule ( eg. add 4) and a starting number. Students could use calculator to extend the number pattern by pressing correct keys on the calculator. After recess, we did more patterning and also did work on our base ten chart started last week. We are slowly moving into working at 4 strands of Math weekly in math groups.
After lunch, I gave the class a diagnostic assessment ( seeing where they are at) on a reading passage that required inferencing. The answers to the questions required the reader to use clues from the passage to answer questions. I handed out magazine boxes, which will become personal "Literacy Boxes" that students will carry with them as they progress through the Daily 5. It will house their word work book, writing folder and books they are reading. We used time in class to add titles, name tags and personalize them using "literacy themed" pictures. We then copied down our homework in our agendas and got ready for recess.
After recess, the class had Music with Mr. Cook and we were interupted by a fire drill. Great day for it, I must say.
